1. Cindy Sheehan is still camping in front of President Bush's ranch. More than 100 peace activists have joined her. Now in addition to calling for U.S. exit from Iraq, she has said that Israel must get out of Palestine.
2. Lynne Stewart has spent her life fighting for the rights of Islamic, African-American and other prisoners held by the U.S. The Bush regime is now preparing to take revenge by putting her in prison as an associate of "terrorists." Wake up Muslim world! Speak up against this great wrong.
3. Rachel Corrie was murdered by the Israelis while she was standing in front of a Palestinian home to stop it from being demolished. Her murderers should be extradited from Israel and put on trial.

1. The number of Islamic Medressa students being deported by General Musharraf from Pakistan is 14,00, not 14,000. The error is regretted.
2. In an interview with Wall Street journal's Asra Nomani, Prof. Akbar Ahmed claimed that the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, said that the "ink of the scholar is more valuable than the blood of the martyr." There is no such narration in any authentic book of Hadith. If there is, perhaps the professor will let us know. By contrast, both the Qur'an and the Hadith put the martyr above others.

Will Pakistan's People Finally Gain Power or will the Plunder Continue?

• He pulled the rug out from under the feet of Pakistan's Taliban allies, permitting the U.S. to plan and supply its invasion of Afghanistan from Pakistani bases.
• The FBI and CIA were gven a free hand to operate in Pakistan. As a result, scores of Islamic refugees, some of them said to be from Al-Qaidah and Taliban, were captured and handed over to the U.S.
• Musharraf successfully blunted the crescendo of Islamic opposition to his regime by hotting up things on the Kashmir frontier to create an "external threat to Pakistan." Once the internal danger to his regime passed, peace feelers were put out to India and the "crisis" ended.
• The idea of the liberation of Kashmir was shelved and increasing pressure was put on Pakistani Jihad groups to stop their support for the Kashmiri people.
• Musharraf used massive funding to create a political party of his own. He went on to hold elections in which his newly manufactured party won a narrow majority.
• A campaign was launched to restrict the activities of Islamic schools [medressas] and to secularize education in general. The U.S. has linked medressas to "terrorism."
• Sectarianism was encouraged. There was a series of sectarian attacks on places of worship. The government failed to stop the attacks or to punish the attackers.
• Taken aback by the resurgence of the Taliban, General Musharraf launched a force of 75,000 Pakistani troops into the tribal areas on the Afghan frontier which are said to harbor Islamic radicals. Heavy fighting resulted in the death of hundreds of Pakistani troops, as well as several hundred Islamic tribesmen harboring Taliban, along with dozens of Islamic refugees said to be Al-Qaidah.
• Musharraf refused to condemn the U.S. invasion of Iraq and prepared the grounds for the recognition of Israel.
• In Karachi, Musharraf hooked up with an organization of gangsters known as MQM to carry out attacks on his Islamic opponents.
• Islamic elements were eliminated from Pakistan's intelligence agencies. Military infiltration into the Pakistani economy increased to unprecedented levels with allotments of land to officers. Mismanagement, corruption, nepotism and crime have reached unprecedented levels. Crimes against women are rampant because the government does not implement Islamic laws against rape and abuse of women.

• The emergence of an Islamic Coalition, MMA, which unified Islamic schools of thought known for their sectarian bickering which often made Pakistanis feel that they were destined to be ineffective. Now Shias, Sunnis, Deobendis, Brelvis, Ahle Hadith, Jamaate Islami pray together and rally together.
• The masses of Pakistan were disgusted and repulsed by the U.S. bombardment of Afghanistan. The Islamic movement successfully articulated these sentiments of the people.
• Million man marches, unprecedented in Pakistan's history, were held in each of Pakistan's major cities to denounce the invasion of Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of women also participated in these processions.
• It's very difficult for General Musharraf to come out in the public without extremely heavy security and "paid and controlled" audiences, and these too have been very few.
• The MMA successfully rallied the people to condemn General Muasharraf's military operations in the tribal areas [Waziristan].
• Musharraf's moves to end the process of liberation of Kashmir by making peace with India backfired with ever increasing mass support for Jihad in Kashmir, especially in Punjab [led by Jamat ad-Da'wa].
• Increasingly women in Pakistan are coming out in support of the Islamic movement. Large numbers of women are supporting both Jamaate Islami and Jamaat ad-Da'wa. There is a realization that westernized women who do not understand or practice Islam have been speaking on behalf of Muslim women without their permission.
• The Islamic movement trumped Musharraf's game of elections by participating in the elections and making significant gains. In particular, the Islamic coalition made a clean sweep of the elections in Frontier Province and parts of Baluchistan.
• An Islamic government has been set up in Frontier. It has brought forth a "Hisba" bill in the provincial assembly which passed comfortably. The bill, for the first time in Pakistan's history, brings the bureaucacy under Islamic scrutiny, monitoring and correction.
• The "Hisba" bill safeguards the rights of women, particularly in the law of inheritance, and orders action against the shameful "honor killings" of women which occur every now and then in the feudalistic areas of Pakistan.
  [General Musharraf claims that the Hisba bill is a form of "talibanization" of Pakistan and has asked the Supreme Court to strike it down.]
• The Islamic movement now has enough public support to topple Musharraf but this would entail direct, bloody confrontation with the army. The Islamic movement thinks that India would be helped by such conflict and might attempt a coup de grace against Pakistan.
• Thus the Islamic movement works peacefully to confront and corner Musharraf. Will peaceful means work or will new, more radical, Islamic forces take over the opposition to Musharraf?
