Key Pakistani Event Censored by Media: 400,000 take part in Jihad Gathering
40,000 Women Turned up led by mothers of 2000 Martyrs
Jihad Movement Demands Removal of U.S. bases & FBI, release of Dr. Amir

New Trend observers were puzzled on hearing that Pakistani coup leader
Pervez Musharraf allowed court activity to go through which resulted in the
release of both Dr. Amir (who treated Osama and people injured in U.S.
bombing) as well as Jihad movement leader Hafiz Saeed. Here is the
force which Musharref took into consideration!
It appears that both the Pakistani and U.S.
media
have censored a major
Pakistani event which took place Novemeber 1, 2 and 3. The Jihad movement
known as jamaat ad-da'wa (with its fighting wing in Kashmir known as
Lashkare
Taiba) was refused permission by the pro-U.S. regime to hold its annual
gathering on the outskirts of Lahore.
Instead of clashing with the government, the Jihad movement rapidly
changed the venue and held its Convention 70 miles away on the outskirts of
Pattoki. It was a minor miracle of organizational skill to set up a
tent city for nearly half-a-million people at six days notice, complete with
eating and sleeping facilities.
The only difficulty the organizers faced was that MORE THAN 40,000
WOMEN turned up, instead of the 20,000 which the organizers anticipated.
Again the ability to cope was superb.
There was tight security and as a result no government agent was
able to create a disturbance.
Along with scholarly speeches on texts of the Qur'an and the
Hadith,
the main point which was repeated throughout was that Jihad against
oppression is as important in
Islam
as prayer and fasting. The massive gathering
demanded
the immediate release of Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkare Taiba,
and Dr. Amir Aziz, the selfless physician who treated the people wounded in
U.S. bombing of
Afghanistan.
The guests of honor were the parents of martyrs. [Lashkare Taiba joined
the struggle against the Indian army in Kashmir years back when news
came out
that India was using RAPE as a weapon to subdue the people of Kashmir.]
During one session, a woman, from behind purdah, had her infant taken
to the stage and announced that she was "donating" her child to the Jihad.
Numerous other women made similar announcements. [The little tent city
occupied by the 40,000 women of Jihad was aptly named after ‘Ayesha Siddiqa
(r.a.) the daughter of Abu Bakr (r.a.) and the beloved of the beloved
of Allah (pbuh).]
The encampments for men were named after Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Usman, Ali,
Talha, Zubair, Sa'ad bin Abi Waqqas, Abdur Rahman bin ‘Auf and Osama
bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them all.)
The gathering included tens of thousands of Pushtu speaking and
Sindhi speaking supporters of jihad who had travelled all the way from
Frontier and Sindh provinces.
Some observers say that the gathering was nearly HALF MILLION strong. The
statement issued by the convention made these points :
1. Condemned Musharref's vacillation on Kashmir.
2. The families of martyrs condemned Musharraf's betrayal of Kashmir.
3. American
FBI's intervention in Pakistan must be stopped.
4. Countrywide network of free medical services and ambulances must be
established. Jamaat ad-Da'wa has started this process in the Lahore
area.
5. Immediate need for relief in Sindh and Baluchistan provinces.
6. Education must be updated. Ad-Da'wa will provide computers and
English teaching in the medressas it has set up.
7. STRUGGLE TO FREE
PALESTINE

is part of our faith.
8. The suffering of the Muslims of India must be stopped. The silence
of Muslim countries about India's atrocities is shameful.
9. Oppose oppression in
Chechnya,
Iraq,
Arakan, the Philippines and Eritrea.
10. All American bases and intervention in Pakistan must end.
11 The Islamic parties which have won the elections in parts of
Pakistan must strive to implement the Sharia.
12. Oppose the cultural smut coming in through TV, cable, dish antennas
etc.
13. If the government cannot protect minorities, the Muslim communities
must organize to stop attacks on minorities.
There was a wealth of discussion of texts from the Qur'an, particularly
about
Jihad. A superb ceremony was also held with reference to Imam Bukhari's
great
collection of Sahih Hadith and honors were given to young people who
had shown expertise in Imam Bukhari's Sahih.
