Reception for Jihad Abdul-Mumit
"The life of this world is alluring to those who reject faith,
and
they scoff at those who believe, but the those who are aware
(of Allah) will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And
surely Allah bestows his abundance without measure on whom
He will." (2:212)
Muslims and non-Muslims, men and women, gathered at Masjid Jamaat
al-Muslimeen in Baltimore on November 12 to honor and welcome back
their
long-lost brother-in-struggle Br. Jihad Abdul-Mumit, former Black
Panther
leader who embraced Islam in prison.
The program lasted from 3 pm to 8 pm. The masjid resounded with
TAKBEER: ALLAHU AKBAR as Br. Jihad spoke of the necessity of
purification
through struggle and sacrifice. He said there is no easy way to
paradise.
Sis. Lateefah, Br. Jihad's devoted wife, Sis. Lailah, their
daughter,
and son Br. Siddiq also spoke. Two other young people also spoke to
express the affirmation of faith by the new generation.
A number of veterans of Islamic work spoke to express their
admiration of Br. Jihad's struggle.
The program was mc'd by Br. Kaukab. The guests were welcomed by
Sis. Ashira. Along with other refreshments, Pakistani-style sweets were
distributed by Sis. Nadrat to celebrate the return of one of America's
top strugglers back into the community and the hearts of the people.
Among non-Muslims present was a Minister from a Baltimore Temple
who got up to say: During Maghrib prayers he had watched the fervor and
discipline with which the Muslims prayed. He said he was not sure if he
was a Muslim, but he would defend the right of the Muslims to pray as
they did with his own life.
During Q & A, Br. Jihad expressed his shock that some Muslims had
gone into masjids to seek votes for Bush.
Br. Kaukab expressed the hope that one day Imam Jamil al-Amin and
Shaikh Omar 'Abdel Rahman will be free and speak at the same podium
where
Br. Jihad was speaking from. He expressed his disgust with a "justice"
system which can keep a good man in prison for 22 years because he
would
not stand for oppression.
Br. Jihad autographed his book for the participants.
A da'wah book produced by Dr. Kazim in West Indies was distributed for
free.
The program ended with du'as by Br. Amin Abdullah, from
Philadephia,
former Ameer of Jamaat al-Muslimeen.
