An Invitation From
Jamaat al-Muslimeen:
It's not the job of the White House to Define
Islam
"O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the
Messenger and those charged with
authority from among you. If you differ in
anything among yourselves, refer
it to Allah and His messenger, if you believe in
Allah and the Last Day: That
is best and most suitable for final
determination."
[The Qur'an 4:59]
Dear readers: asalamu alaikum
Peace be with
you.
Jamaat al-Muslimeen will hold its 4th
International Islamic Symposium,
inshallah, (Allah-willing), in Greensboro, North
Carolina on June 21, 2003
(which is a Saturday).
Kaukab Siddique,
Ameer
Sis. Motisola M. Abdallah,
Secretary General
Imam Badi Ali,
Local Host
This organization has had a track record of
service to oppressed communities
since 1978. Here are some important points about
it:
PURPOSE: To organize an independent Islamic
movement in
America
and other
countries.
ISLAM here means the Qur'an and the authentic
hadith
of the Prophet (peace be
on him).
Seeking the example of the Prophet (pbuh) in
similar conditions, we work
within the law of the land through peaceful means
by utilizing the rights to
speak, write, communicate, organize, assemble and
protest.
We believe that America, like other lands,
belongs to Allah.
We believe that all human beings have inalienable
rights which are enunciated
in the Qur'an and the Hadith.
Nationalism, race, class, gender superiority have
no place in Islamic
decision-making, participation and organization.
The Qur'an has taught that
TAQWA (God-conscious behavior) is the only
standard of merit and honor.
Organizations based on nationalism, race, class
and gender cannot be called
Islamic though they may borrow from Islam in some
ways.
Jamaat al-Muslimeen works through mutual
consultation and consent (SHOORA, a
word used by the Qur'an for such process).
We do not accept funds from any governmental
organizations or fronts, nor do
we accept any funds with strings attached.
Women and men are equals in Jamaat al-Muslimeen's
decision-making and
leadership.
We support the struggle of all oppressed people,
be they the oppressed people
of America or of
Palestine,
Kashmir,
Chechnia,
Afghanistan,
Iraq,
Sudan,
Somalia, etc. This support is in the area of
communication and publicity as
well as in humanitarian ventures. It does not
imply agreement with all the
tactics, policies and teachings of the oppressed
strugglers.
We are against all sectarianism, be it the
sectarianism of those who sanctify
human beings to the level of the Prophet (pbuh),
or of those who try to
divide people based on theological
interpretations, or of those who denigrate
the companions of the Prophet (pbuh), or of those
who try to oppose the
Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh). [Such differences
should be the subject of
research and study, not of public rhetoric and
debate.]
We have a human rights interest in the condition
of prisoners in general and
of Muslim prisoners in particular. We have
committees monitoring the
suffering of political prisoners such as
Imam Jamil al-Amin,
Shaikh Omar ‘Abdel Rahman,
Ahmed ‘Abdel Sattar,
Prof. Sami al-Arian,
Sis. Haila Gabr,
the Lackawanna Six,
the Portland Four,
Jose Padilla,
Victor Alvarez,
Ujamaa
and others.
People can join Jamaat al-Muslimeen in three
capacities:
1. Members.
2. Supporters.
3. Sympathizers.
One cannot become a member by simply filling a
form and writing a check. One
must apply for inclusion in one of the three
categories in a letter which
would indicate:
How much time you can give on a weekly basis?
How much money can you donate on a monthly basis?
Which capabilities are you willing and able to
use in the service of the
oppressed communities?
[We are looking for people who can write, speak,
call and picket.]
Funds are badly needed. Donate to:
