Dear Editor of Baltimore Sun
I wonder why your paper provided such uncritical acclaim to the Feminist Expo
in Baltimore. The occasion was used in a very hamhanded way to attack Prophet
Muhammad (peace be on him), the Qur'an and Islam. Such attacks offend all
people of faith and certainly ignore the fact that Muhammad, the Prophet of
Islam, is the greatest liberator of women and of all humanity.
The Muslim women at the Expo, from a variety of backgrounds, protested
but were not recognized. Prof. Riffat Hassan (Louisville, Kentucky), wrote a
rebuttal to the attacks which I am forwarding with this.
Change in every society must come from within its authentic roots. Islam is a
revolutionary force around the world which liberates women and gives them
equality, justice and decision-making power. Tens of thousands of American
women have embraced Islam and Islam is spreading like wildfire in Africa
inspite of the frantic attempts of Christian missionaries to propagandize
against it.
Abuse such as that witnessed at the Feminist Expo will strengthen the resolve
of Muslim women to bring Islam into their lives.
Sincerely
Kaukab Siddique, Ph.D
