The Reality Behind Musharraf's Drama of Khan's "confession," "apology" and "forgiveness"

• Pakistanis think that SUDDENLY after 9.11 Musharref was threatened by the U.S. and TO SAVE THE COUNTRY did an about face leaving Pakistan's Taliban allies at America's mercy.
  There is no evidence of such overnight switch in Musharref's mind.
• There is plenty of evidence that the campaign against the Taliban was prepared BEFORE 9.11.
  It could be that 9.11 was a pre-emptive attack by the Islamists who knew of the coming U.S. operation. The ongoing inquiry into 9.11 should look at this important aspect.
• Musharraf has an effective propaganda machine which repeatedly insists that all raids carried out against Islamists INSIDE PAKISTAN are done independently by the Pak government in the "national interest" to root out "terrorists."
• However, the coordination between Musharraf and the US has become increasingly clear to the extent that there can be little doubt that Musharraf is a CIA operative.
• One aspect of this coordination came out when Pakistani physicians were arrested and investigated on suspicion that they had given medical treatment or kidney dialysis to Osama bin Laden.
• The "investigation" of A.Q. Khan and other Pakistani scientists could not have been carried out in such detail by the CIA without the full cooperation of Musharref.
• Scientists meet, hold conferences, study each other's academic papers and search for areas of cooperation. For the U.S-Israel-UK this amounts to "proliferation" and helping "terrorism" if a Muslim scientist does it.
• As the CIA tightened its "investigation" of the Pakistanis, Musharref placed the scientists under house arrest. At a certain point, the entire "evidence" of "cooperation" with Muslim countries and North Korea (a loose cannon which fears US bullying) was placed before A.Q. Khan and he was made to write a "confession" about his "proliferating" activities.
• Musharref is very aware that the mistreatment of the scientists has created a big backlash among Pakistanis both at the nationalistic and the Islamic level. So he carried out a drama to fool the people.
• A saddened looking A.Q. Khan, very tense and obviously under pressure, was brought on Pakistani TV to sit with Musharref and apologize to the nation for his alleged crimes.
• Then in a master stroke, Musharraf "forgave" Khan for his errors and said the matter is over!
• Musharraf completely ignored the Pakistani parliament and carried out the activity against Khan only within his own security organization NCA and then forwarded it for approval to his "cabinet." The scientists were also kept away from the media.
• Jamaate Islami is carrying out public demonstrations to condemn Musharref's moves but it is probably too late. The JI seems to be still living in pre-Musharraf era when there was some Islamist support in the military.
• CONCLUSION: Pakistan as a nation is trapped. A CIA agent is sitting right in Islamabad running the country with the help of a clique of generals and corrupt politicians from previous regimes. The Pakistani people have still not reached the stage where they could recognize that, as in Turkey and Egypt, their "own" military leaders are working "hand-in-glove" with forces which are waging war on Islam. The reality is too harsh for them to face lacking a very bold leadership willing to live and die for an Islamic Pakistan. There is no Mullah Omar, a Khomeini, or even a Saddam in Pakistan. The country is helpless.
