Islamics using light weapons to challenge Assad's armor in his strongholds.
July 18-27: Assad launched heavy counterattacks with tanks and helicopters after the mujahideen captured three areas of Damascus city. After heavy fighting, Assad regained two of the areas but fighting continues in the third.
The big shock for Assad was the Islamic capture of parts of Aleppo [Halab in Arabic]. Here Assad has amassed his best forces and for the first time has carried out air strikes INSIDE the city. Several of his tanks have been destroyed by audacious Islamic fighters carrying rpgs. Large parts of Syria are now under Islamic control.
New York Times has warned of the big al-Qaida component in the resistance. Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri urged all Muslims, especially his forces in Iraq, to help the Syrian people. This could explain why the West has not intervened after 17 months of horrible atrocities by Assad and his Alawite and Christian allies.

Al-Baghdadi says territory being re-taken in Ramadan offensive.
July 23: The fragile hold of the al-Maliki regime installed by the US in Iraq is being tested by the string of bomb attacks by the Islamic State in Iraq led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said to be al-Qaida in Iraq. The attacks targeted al-Malikis's troops, police and militias with deadly accuracy.
There are also reports that Islamic fighters from Iraq and many other Muslim countries are pouring into Syria to help the fighting against Assad. Al-Baghdadi is reported to have said that a united Islamic state of Syria and Iraq will be formed after the Islamic victory.

Benefits of Watermelon in Ramadan

When Ramadan falls in the hot summer months like the one we are in, one of the foods we look forward to at Iftar time is the cool, refreshing watermelon. It's considered a staple at Iftar time in hot countries like Malaysia, Thailand, India.

Rasullullah (saw) himself has spoken highly about watermelon. He said, "Whenever you eat fruit, eat melon, because it is the fruit of Paradise and contains a thousand blessings and a thousand mercies. The eating of it cures every disease."

The Arabic word for Watermelon as mentioned in the Hadith is 'Batikh' or 'Bittik'. Additional narrations on the watermelon include:

Rasullullah (saw) especially recommended women who are pregnant to eat watermelon. "None of your women who are pregnant and eat of watermelon will fail to produce offspring who are good in countenance and good in character."

Pakistan: Is religion sometimes the opium of the masses?
NATO supply containers roll while Pakistanis pray longest Taraweehs in the world.
July 21-25. After all the efforts Jamaate Islami made to block the NATO supply routes,the materialistic culture of Pakistan is winning. Starting with Ramadan, more than 100 container trucks have rolled across the frontier into Afghanistan. [Dawn, the secularist daily, gleefully reported this.]
All this time NATO was blocked but the secular rulers were waiting for Ramadan. Pakistanis, most of whom follow the Hanafi fiqh, pray about two hours EVERY night in Ramadan. Twenty taraweehs and 3 witr after the 4 fard and sunnahs and nafl!
They have forgotten that Badr and the conquest of Makkah happened in Ramadan and the Prophet, pbuh, was certainly not praying taraweehs at that time. The evidence for taraweehs is meagre, almost zero, in the Islamic texts but don't say that to a religious Pakistani.
During Musharraf's regime too, the protests against the bombing of Afghanistan ended when Ramadan intervened. Musharraf was worried that Pakistanis might be outraged but the Americans knew better! They kept bombing and even bombed a couple of taraweeh prayers.
{With apologies to our Hanafi readers, we should mention that inshallah with such long taraweehs, the Hanafis will come out much stronger and will seriously block NATO routes. Hispanic Rallies in Anaheim, California after two police shootings

July 23,24, 25: In the home city of Disneyland and Angels baseball team, there have been anti-police rallies by the Hispanic population. Injuries and damage are reported by AP in brutal police response. The people were protesting the killing of a youth on July 21 and another on July 22 in police raids aimed at "suspects." Observers say that police can shoot anyone and usually get a minor "slap on the wrist."

Since this is the best of all months, naturally I wanted to give nasihah to myself and to the readers about the fad'il of Ramadan. But, then we had a recent tragedy in Aurora, CO here in the U.S. in which a gunman opened fire in a crowded movie theater and left 12 confirmed dead (including babies) and many more wounded. The suspect in his mugshot had a broad smile on his face. He did not once tell the authorities his motive. He waited patiently in his vehicle for the authorities to arrest him and did not put up any resistance.
What was the cause of all of this? We can only speculate, and of course, the suspect is innocent until proven guilty. But, the fact of the matter lies in the lack of community and brotherhood/sisterhood in Western society. Islam teaches us that all of humanity is one brother/sisterhood, but the real relationship between humans is Islam, which is one BODY. So, throughout the course of our days we hardly stop to see how our fellow human is doing. People are dealing with real problems in society and all we have to do is sincerely look them in the eyes and ask them, "How are you doing today?". It is not about ourselves. We are so caught up in chasing the dunya that we never find even a second for our fellow human and how their well being is.
I know from my own personal experiences that if we show a little compassion to a stranger it could be the difference between them taking their own lives, or this tragic mass shooting. Look at the previous high school mass shootings - who did them? It was usually children who felt like outcasts and were bullied - feelings of helplessness and that no one understood them.
Let us follow the authentic Sunnah of our Prophet (saw) today. Who knows - just by taking a second to stop and inquire how our fellow human feels we may even have a new Muslim, because we as Muslims are the only ones who truly care about the condition of humanity. Do we remember the famous story of the jewess who accosted the Prophet (saw) daily on his walks and how he (saw) still inquired about her health while she was on her death bed? And Allah knows best.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: A man asked the Prophet (saw), "What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?" The Prophet (saw) replied, "To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know." [Bukhari Vol. 1, Book 2, #11]

NATO Supply Routes will be blocked. Islamic Coalition Determined to stop the NATO killing machine

Lahore, July 26: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch has said the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) has finalized all sit-in arrangements on NATO supply routes from Karachi to Chaman via Torkham near Pak Afghan border.
In a statement issued here at Mansoora on Thursday, he said the nation would not accept NATO supply restoration at any cost and would resist against it with full vigor.
He expressed his wonder saying the US was facing a humiliating defeat in Afghanistan but the political and military leadership of Pakistan had surrendered against the wishes of nation which would prove destructive for national security and integrity.
He deplored that the leadership put aside the parliament resolutions on NATO supply reopening under the US pressure against the national aspirations.
He said the cabinet had approved a written agreement on NATO supply which, he demanded, should be made public in line with democratic and constitutional process.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Arakani Muslim community from Myanmar called on Liaqat Baloch in the leadership of Noor Hussain Arakani.
Liaqat Baloch deplored that all international institutions including OIC had tightened their lips over the cruelty and violation of basic human rights in Myanmar. "All muslim rulers should lodge a protest by calling ambassador of Myanmar in their countries," he added.
He expressed his disappointment over Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi for keeping mum over the issue. He hailed Saudi King Shah Abdullah for calling OIC session on the issue and appealed that OIC should formulate a future line of action for betterment of Muslims of Palestine, Kashmir and Myanmar.
The delegation thanked JI for raising its voice on the issue and drawing attention of the world towards the killing of Muslim community in Myanmar.

The Greatest Need of Man is ....

Alhamdulillah, with the favorable blessings of my Lord, I wrote this book in the beginning of the last decade of the 20th century when Communism was dying, the cold war was about to collapse and "mighty Russia was humiliatedly defeated by the ill-equipped Afghanistan students [Taliban] and the tempo of the concocted Gulf war was building against Iraq. Both Pakistan and the USA were heavily involved in this global upheaval. The man and his irresponsible behavior of greed and lust to occupy the lands of others was the distinct cause of this turmoil. Immediate causes were always there and will be to exploit them for any imperial design by any vested interest. The "Tragedy of 9/11" was one of then and, unfortunately, that still stands today unproven through any Judicial Probe on International level: WHO DID IT AND WHAT FOR?
Since the time I envisioned this book about 20 years, two decades, have passed. The world has taken new turn and human history is standing today, facing another big disaster in its march towards its earmarked destiny with dire consequences. At this juncture:

Capitalism is at its death bed as it couldn't solve any of the human problems, rather is accumulating them at an accelerated pace as Communism gave up its false claim as panacea for all evils in Russia and at global level in early nineties of the last century and thereby succumbed to its self-sustained injuries. Frequently the survival of Capitalism needs heavy doses of oxygen for its onward march just for some temporary lease of life. Now it seems that capitalism is going to remain permanently in an oxygen tent as if it is breathing its last. Human ingenuity could not and cannot find its "cure" as its very edifice is based on frivolous grounds of greed and reckless behavior of man - the investor, the producer of goods and services and the consumer at large.
Man's standard of living is constantly ballooning with ever- increasing cost of goods and services that has broken the backbone of the poor, the needy, the have-nots, the un-employed and the under-employed.;
Unemployment is rampant in every developed, developing and undeveloped country with falling state revenues and low Tax Returns;
Governments are short of cash and highly burdened with debt and private capital is shy too to come forward for investment to increase the pace of producing jobs and services. The USA alone is holding more than 3.5 trillion dollars in cash but it is not forthcoming for Investment to create jobs, services and thereby increasing purchasing power of common man. Human society badly needs huge investment in private sector as governments are deeply buried in debt and cannot burden its economy more. This selfish attitude of the money holders is a bad stigma on the forehead of Capitalism. It is bringing its death nearer and nearer.
Corporate interest on the other hand is looking for the maximization of its profits and gains by hook or by crook. It is busy in outsourcing its business opportunities to lands where labor is cheap, cost of production is low and the margin of profit is great.
Justice, peace and security have become rarest thing to find in the human abode. The affluent are perpetuating their game of exploitation of the oppressed and the have-nots and have filled the earth with injustices all around. Humanity is lamenting and there is none to take care of it, except tall talks all around.
Human rights are being violated every now and then every where. The "culprits", the Great Five, are sitting under the canopy of the UN as permanent members of the Security Council and the teaming millions and millions of people are starving in the under developed countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America with no fresh water, no clean air and no guarantee even to get one squire meal a day, facing death and a suffocated life at every step. Is it not a shameful challenge to "Capitalistic" or the "Socialist" democracies around the world?
Home industry is suffering from its devastating paralysis and Banks have multiplied its pace due to its continuous chain of Investment in housing industry that was and is not adequately supported by Asset's Backed Securities. Thus, they ruined their liquidity position. They are starving from cash and need government's subsidy at frequent intervals to keep their "shutters" open throughout the banking Industry in Europe, Asia and America. It is their own creation and greed to make more and more profit through investing in sub-prime mortgage lending; facing an unending chain of loses.

"These loans were made to customers who did not qualify for standard mortgage loans because of weak credit, insufficient income or an unstable job situation. A sub-prime customer is much riskier because of these factors. Many loans made to these customers were adjustable rate mortgages, which are tied to certain indexes, plus a margin, that increase periodically and raise the mortgage payment. Some customers saw their payments increase by hundreds of dollars, making them unaffordable. Foreclosures reached record levels when homeowners could not make these payments." The Banking Industry is suffering alarmingly in its wake due to shortage of cash and liquidity.

The brief scenario that I have presented above constitutes an unending line of human tragedies. It is due to misuse of his own Freewill that the Creator and Sustainer endowed man to satisfy his/her urges from the bounties and benedictions created and provided by Him within human self and all along the environment around man for his use the way he likes or prefers as per his freewill. This is the free choice that is given to man as how to act, live and behave while on earth, feeling always accountable to the Lord of this universe for the manner he/she uses His bounties to satisfy his urges. If it is used correctly as per His Guidance, he/she will be rewarded after death or will be punished if he/she uses these bounties as per his/her whims, desires and caprices. The choice is his and his only and he will be dealt with accordingly.

To understand the complexities of this phenomenon of man's freewill, one has to understand the objective of man's creation and his descend on earth as His vicegerent in a sequence.

God first designed and created man in his best fashion with three strong urges *for food and water, *rest and sleep and *sex for a limited period of life and *one freewill for the satisfaction of his urges as he desires and kept him in paradise for the period known to God alone.
God created this universe for man and harness it for the use and benefit of man
The Creator, in fact, planned to ascertain from amongst the human race: Who are those individuals who remain obedient to Him for the whole of his or her earthly life by exercising his/her own individual freewill and lives a life as per Guidance sent to man through His appointed Messengers in a chain and those who deny the Messenger and his message and live as per the dictates of their freewill and fill the earth with injustices, Zulm (oppression) and Fasa'd (transgression)..

One who will follow the Creator and Sustainer will lead a life of straight path as designed by the Lord of this cosmos and demonstrated by His Messengers as model and those who deny His authority and the Guidance that comes from Him and follow a life pattern that is designed by man by exercising his freewill as how to live, act and behave on this earth.
Through exercising his Freewill man thus, either lives a life as ordained by God and reaps the harvest of His pleasure after death or lives a secular life on earth - inaugurating clearly, thus, two patterns of life just opposite to each other:

One Pattern that is acceptable to the Creator and Sustainer with eternal pleasure from Him in return: enjoying a contented life on earth and everlasting abode in His Jannah [Paradise] that has no fear or any sorrow for its habitants.
The other that He abhors with His eternal displeasure both in this worldly life and the after death with everlasting torture and punishment in the Hellfire.
These two patterns of life exist on earth since the dawn of Human civilization -- one is called Godly System or Theism and the other is called Secularism or Godless creeds and both have been at daggers drawn from the very outset. One is the boon for mankind while the other is a total disaster for the human species.

Poet Iqbal rightly put this entire concept of constant struggle between the forces of Haq and Batil in a couplet:
Sateza "Satezakaar Raha hai Azal se ta Imroz
Chiraag Chiraghe Mustafawee se sharare bu lahabi"

One who follows the Creator and Sustainer is called Muslim- obedient to God a conscious life, feeling always accountable to his /her Lord after death for all of his/her actions and deeds. That makes him a responsible character, very much mindful of his duties and responsibilities to self, family and the society at large in every field of life and discharges his obligation at all counts with total devotion and no negligence in any way. He becomes a boon and blessing for human species. He is loved by all for his benevolent character. He ultimately becomes a true servant of God His [Abd]. People love them and they establish the Kingdom of God on earth. Prophet David, Solomon and Muhammad Ibne Abdullah of Makkah (May Allah be pleased with them) established it on earth at their respective times. That filled the earth with Barakah and Justice, peace and security all around within the human abode. The Caliphs of Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] carried out its blessings subsequently to major parts of Asia, Africa and Europe. It is the model for mankind.
And the one who denies His authority and the System of life that He had sent in a chain for the human species to follow on earth is known as Secular and paganism. They live by their freewill, developed secular system of life as per their personal whims, desires and caprices, fill the earth with injustices, Zulm and Fasa'd (oppression and transgression). This way of thinking makes the man irresponsible, selfish, reckless, greedy and indulge him to run mostly for his personal gains, fame and pleasure. Thus, all the man-made systems and Isms developed by such greedy and reckless individuals, groups or the people from the very outset of human society to this age fall in this category and, unfortunately, it is continued unabated. In the present context of the world when there is no "Kingdom of God" on earth, the secular, God-less creeds or systems of life have made the human life an unbearable absolute torture and filled the human abode with all kinds of injustices in their individual, family and societies that they constitute.
In consequence, both the Systems of life - the God-given and the man-made are at daggers drawn both in theory and practice with no peace and security in any segment of human society.
Besides these two distinct divisions of the human society, there is a third group that is called "Muslim" in name only as they do accept the authority of God but practically ignore Him in practice. They are called the Traditional or the so-called Muslims, Jews and Christians. All the three believe in the Abrahamic faith but follow only a distorted version of Islam - Obedience to God and Accountability in Akhirah for the name sake only.
It is, therefore, desirable, rather it is incumbent upon those who follow Islam and are obedient to God in every walk of life must come forward and invite the Jews, Christians and the traditional Muslims to enter into Islam in its totality and invite the pagan and the secular world to the fold of their Creator and Sustainer so that all could enjoy His pleasure in this world and in the life Hereafter.
The readers of this book: The Greatest Need of Man" have this paramount obligation on their shoulders, especially in the context of present day situation when all man-made Isms have collapsed or at the verge of total failure and they have to take care of them. They have to present Islam with care and concern for facing the inevitable condition in both the worlds. I am sure all will study this preface and the book with the same mission in mind, God will compensate each of them immensely.

At 5:30 on Tuesday, July 24th, the North Coast Coalition for Palestine is asking the Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights to investigate Veolia and stand up to corporate power. We want an ethical company operating our buses!
Arrive early at 2550 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, at the Permit and Resource Management Department building.
There will be time for public comment, and we will need your support. Come prepared with a one minute statement and don't forget to: Start with your name, and mention if you are a Sonoma County resident If you are Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian, Muslim or have been to Israel and Palestine and seen the injustice, please say so.
Start with a short personal story that lasts a few sentences. Then give one specific reason why you support the investigation.
