AFGHANISTAN: Taliban Trying to Outflank Bagram U.S. Air Base

On April 17, 2007 an elite Taliban mujahideen unit cut the Kapisa-Kabul highway. On April 18, the Taliban unit hit a Karzai police unit in the area killing 2 police and capturing 5. After that the Taliban captured 4 villages in the Tagab-Nagrab axis in Kapisa province. The villages are Qorghul, Seh Pidr, Jawi Bar, and Salih Khel. A Kabul-U.S. counterattack developed on April 19 but has been unable to dislodge the Taliban from the highway. The Karzai appointed governor of Kapisa province has confirmed the Taliban victory and said that if rapid reinforcements are not sent, the Taliban could advance through the Kapisa mountain ranges towards Sarobi. Thus the U.S. air force base at Bagram, 50 km south of the fighting would be outflanked. The elite Taliban unit is said to be armed with the most modern weaponry.

The Taliban say they blew up a U.S. tank in the province of Ghazni killing its crew.

CANADA's WAR in AFGHANISTAN: In southern Afghanistan, Kandahar province, Canadian military sweeps have been hit by Taliban guerrillas in the last 10 days. In one attack, the Taliban killed 6 Canadian troops, 2 in a second ambush and 2 killed 3 wounded in fighting on April 20 [reported by Fox TV].

Canada's opposition parties [on April 16] mourned the first six deaths and called for clarification of Canada's purpose in Afghanistan. The Canadian government, closely allied to the Bush administration, plans to stay in Afghanistan and has ordered 120 tanks for this purpose from two European countries.

Taliban spokesman has denounced as FAKE a Human Rights Watch claim blaming the Taliban for civilian deaths. The HRW Afghan group is being run by a person named Sam who has written propaganda stories about Taliban "atrocities." The Taliban spokesman demanded that HRW provide evidence for its allegations. No reply from HRW.

Another report which New Trend has received says that the Taliban cadres all over Afghanistan have received an AUDIO message as well as a letter with his signature from Mullah Umar, the legendary leader of the Taliban, urging Jihad against NATO and expulsion of the Euro-American "crusader forces." The report says that the personal letter from the Mullah is of extreme importance for the Jihad because it indicates that the ideological leader of the resistance is alive and well.

SOMALIA: HEAVY RESISTANCE to ETHIOPIAN FORCES: SLAUGHTER of SOMALI Civilians

April 20, 21, 22. In a massive attempt to crush the Somali peoples' support for the Islamic resistance, the U.S.-backed Ethiopian armada has been shelling civilian areas in Mogadishu with HEAVY ARTILLERY. Somalian Islamic resistance forces have regrouped and are attacking the flanks of the Ethiopian armada. The Ethiopians have retreated in several sectors of Mogadishu after suffering heavy casualties, more than 100 of their troops killed and 175 wounded. On April 21, Ethiopian commanders called for reinforcements.

More than 10,000 Somalian civilians have fled the city to avoid atrocities by the U.S.-backed occupation forces.

Heavy guerrilla activity by the Islamic resistance continues. The U.S. military death toll was 3316 killed by April 20, of which 69 were killed in the first 20 days of April.

Our research on the U.S. media's coverage of the war still holds true. The media report only the attacks on Shi'a supporters of the U.S. without noting anything about the U.S. and Shia mercenary killings of civilians supporting the resistance. Revenge attacks against Shi'as are reported as "Shia-Sunni" conflict.

New Trend's analysts say that Iraq's Shi'as violated the basic teachings of Shi'ism as given by Imam Husain, r.a., to oppose the invasion of Iraq by the U.S. Instead many, or most Iraqi Shi'as, joined the U.S. forces. Thus, say these reports, attacks on Shi'as are basically part of the resistance to occupation and not a sectarian problem.

Recently, the resistance successfully entered and attacked the so-called Parliament of Iraq [installed under U.S. protection]. The targets were Sunnis "elected" to the fake Parliament. These reports say, in Iraqi families often one spouse is Shia and the other Sunni. There is no question of sectarian conflict.

The fact of life is that Shi'a leaders sided with the U.S. and supported the U.S. when it destroyed Sunni [resistance] cities such as Falluja, Haditha, Ramadi and Tal Afar. Shias were then recruited by the U.S. to go into these cities and help the U.S. kill the people ["insurgents" who are just about EVERYONE.]

Imam Badi Ali Welcomes Cindy Sheehan: 600 Rally in Greensboro, North Carolina

Greensboro has seen many anti-war protests but this was historic. More than 600 non-Muslims [mostly White] and scores of Muslims rallied in the City Plaza to welcome Cindy Sheehan. A young Muslim, Muhammad Abu Zaiter, on behalf of the Islamic Center of the Triad, gave a plaque to Ms. Sheehan honoring her for speaking "Truth to Power." Imam Badi Ali's little daughter Yaffe read a poem about peace honoring the children of Palestine who resisted Israeli tanks with stones. A PALESTINIAN FLAG was raised on the dais.

Cindy Sheehan's speech was powerful. She denounced President Bush as a TERRORIST. She called for Bush's IMPEACHMENT. She wants an IMMEDIATE end to the war. She called the occupation of Iraq "evil." On May 14, she's calling for a huge protest in Washington which will be led by 10,000 mothers.

Police was present in big numbers as COUNTER-PROTESTORS came out to insult Cindy and the anti-war people. They called the protestors "Communists" and the Muslims [Imam Badi and others] "terrorists" and demanded that both the Muslims and Cindy should "go home."

All the local TV channels, radio and newspapers reported on the historic event. Imam Badi and the Muslims were clearly visible in the TV coverage.

Jamaat al-Muslimeen's Adopt-a Child-Program

Readers might remember that earlier this year Jamaat called for the adoption of a child in Maiduguri, northeastern NIGERIA. Alhamdulillah, he has been adopted by sister Chekeisha al-Amin in Masjid Jamaat al-Muslimeen [Baltimore].

On April 21, we adopted two children in SUDAN. These will also be adopted by families in the same masjid, inshallah.

Now we are looking for a child in BANGLADESH.

Zionists Push for Drastic Moves Against Sudan on Darfur

John Prandergast, Mia Farrow and Alex de Waal call for "No Fly Zones," Strict Sanctions, Rebel Unity

The moves against Sudan are coming literally out of the Jewish "Holocaust" Museum. The timing was perfect. President Bush visited the "Holocaust" Museum and the very next day, we had this drama in the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearings.

April 19,2007. It was quite a show. A White-Jewish woman, notorious actress Mia Farrow, and two White men, John Prandergast [runs "charities"] and Alex de Waal [Harvard University] claimed they love Africa [and Muslims!] so much, their hearts are breaking over the suffering in Darfur [Sudan].

Here are reflections of the show:

Mia Farrow showed a whole pack of photos allegedly showing suffering people in Darfur. These were stills, some allegedly of rape victims, some of the unwell and the destitute, some of mutilation.
She claimed these were all done by Sudanese forces. Mia Farrow very conveniently works for UNICEF and thus has monies at her disposal to take to suffering African children. In one picture,
Children were shown holding placards WRITTEN in ENGLISH for the benefit of Mia Farrow's camera. Poverty and suffering in Darfur opens up people to the wiles of people like Mia Farrow.
John Prandergast does not try to hide his hatred for Sudan or his missionary planning to split and undermine Africa's biggest Muslim country. He claimed that Sudan is terrorist [remember Osama once lived here, John said]. For John, the old, dead, discarded "slavery in Sudan" story is still alive. It was his prop #2 for abusing Sudan.
John, the good Zionist he is, strongly, fervently, recommended the following against Sudan [allegedly to save Darfur]:
1. IMPOSE NO-FLY ZONES on Sudan.
2. TIGHTEN the SANCTIONS and make them more detailed.
3. SUPPORT REBEL UNITY.
[The U.S. and Israel armed the Darfur rebels but they are not united.]
4. STOP SUDANESE BANKING WORLDWIDE.
5. PREPARE CREDIBLE THREAT of MILITARY FORCE.
The Harvard man, Alex de Waal, was all for No Fly Zones. Unfortunately, he said, although he has been working hard for unity of rebel factions, it is difficult. He supported Ethiopian pressure on Sudan but now Ethiopia is busy elsewhere.
MIA FARROW outdid the others by accusing CHINA of participating in "genocide" in Darfur. This might confuse readers, so let me explain. China is helping Sudan produce oil. If the oil production continues, Sudan will not only prosper, it will be able to help the rest of Africa too. This oil production has to be stopped in the name of helping Darfur. Mia Farrow went further and demanded that OLYMPICS in China should be boycotted to stop China from helping Sudan in the production of oil. John chimed in that China may support Sudan but when push comes to shove in the UN Security Council, China will abstain.

[New Trend comment: The story of "genocide" in Darfur does not stand up to scrutiny. Euro-American observers flit in and out of Darfur via rebel groups and come back with one-sided stories of "genocide." The only force which has been in Darfur for more than a year is the African [AU] military force of 7,000 men. These Africans, though not very friendly to the Islamic regime in Khartoum, have never come anywhere near endorsement of the "genocide" story.]

New Trend sees the Darfur propaganda as the precursor to the military intervention by the U.S. in Sudan. Evidently if "no fly zones" are implemented, the U.S. air force will be directly involved. The purpose of the Darfur story is to deflect attention from :

Israel's destruction of Lebanon in 2006 and its inability to defeat Hizbullah.
Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people, 4,000,000 of whom are refugees.
Israel-backed U.S. occupation of Iraq where genocide is well underway and more than 600,000 war-related deaths have been reported, including 100,000 plus from U.S. air force action.

Prison Guard Threatens Dr. Al-Arian's Life

TAMPA— For nearly three days this week, the whereabouts of Dr. Sami Al-Arian were unknown. He was last seen by family members last Sunday at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, NC, where he was steadily recovering from the effects of a 60-day hunger strike in which he lost 55 pounds, more than 25 percent of his bodyweight.

Dr. Al-Arian embarked on the hunger strike to protest the Justice Department's violation of a plea agreement that would have seen him released today, Friday April 13, 2007. Instead, he spent the days leading up to his original release date in a harrowing ordeal that saw him transferred from Butner to the Alexandria Detention Center in northern Virginia. During the course of the trip, Dr. Al-Arian spent nearly two days at a temporary facility in Petersburg, Virginia, where he was subjected to some of the worst verbal and physical abuses by prison officials in the course of his four-year imprisonment.

Dr. Al-Arian arrived in Petersburg on Tuesday April 10 at 5 PM. Upon his arrival, Dr. Al-Arian's undergarments were confiscated and he was instead given old, worn out undergarments with holes in them. He was placed in a tiny, freezing cold cell with pools of water on the ground. Though the vent released extremely cold air, he was given no additional blankets or extra clothing and no cleaning supplies to clean the dirty cell. Since there were no windows in the cell, he could not tell the time of day or the direction to perform his Muslim prayer.

Moreover, the guards at the federal facility in Petersburg illegally seized Dr. Al-Arian's legal documents and then proceeded to "misplace" them. They have yet to be found or returned. Following a 30-hour stay in the deplorable cell, Dr. Al-Arian was taken to be transported to northern Virginia at 4:30 AM on Thursday, during which time he was subjected to the most abusive conduct on the part of at least two officials with the Bureau of Prisons.

A Correctional Officer who was strip-searching Dr. Al-Arian asked him "Where are you from? Afghanistan? " Dr. Al-Arian refused to answer the question. The guard repeated the question several times, before saying:

"It doesn't matter where you're from. If I had my way, you wouldn't be in prison. I'd put a bullet in your head and get it done with. You're nothing but a piece of s***."

Dr. Al-Arian responded: "Why do you say that? You don't know me." The guard replied:

"I know enough about all you guys. You're all pieces of s***. You can go pray to the f*** that you pray to."

He then unleashed a stream of obscenities at Dr. Al-Arian, repeatedly telling him to "Shut the f*** up." Dr. Al-Arian then told him, "If you were brave enough, you would tell me what your name so I can report you."

The guard then walked away hurling more obscenities. The guard who engaged in this verbal abuse refused to give Dr. Al-Arian his name. He is white, over-weight, 6 foot 2 inches tall with green eyes, a goatee and is balding.

This is not the first time the guard in question has harassed Dr. Al- Arian. In January, when Dr. Al-Arian was in Petersburg when being transferred to Butner, the same guard told him: "You're a terrorist. I can tell by your name."

The lieutenant in charge heard the exchange, took Dr. Al-Arian to the side and proceeded to squeeze his right arm and right leg with handcuffs and leg irons. Because of this, Dr. Al-Arian was completely numb for the duration of the four-hour trip to Alexandria. The lieutenant, who is white, about 6 foot tall, with green eyes, also repeatedly told Dr. Al-Arian to "Shut the f*** up" and tightened his shackles 7 times, increasing the pain each time.

Both the guard and lieutenant transferred Dr. Al-Arian to Alexandria. When Dr. Al-Arian disembarked from the van that transported him, the lieutenant repeatedly pulled the chain around Dr. Al-Arian's waist in an attempt to trip him and cause him to fall. He also shoved him against a wall when they arrived at the U.S. Marshals office in Virginia.

Visit to Masaud Khan, April 16, 2007. A "good" Prison but even his Mom can't Embrace him: No Regime in the World does this.

On Sunday April 16th Masaud's wife, son and mother traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana for a long-anticipated visit. It had been 4 months since they had last visited with Masaud at USP Lee in Virginia, where he had been for 2 ½ years and then transferred overnight.

Terre Haute is a small town. People are friendly; they do not react adversely to the Muslimah in hijab and/or niqab with frowning looks.

The federal prison's strategy for relocating an inmate is to move him without notice to another prison temporarily in the interests of "security". No information is given out to the inmate's attorney or family as to his whereabouts. Eventually, the inmate's name will appear on the Bureau of Prison's website and state "in transit", which reveals nothing, or it states the inmate's location. There is no way to contact the inmate personally. The inmate is not allowed to make a phone call to his family or his lawyer; in fact, the lawyer is the last to know in most cases.

Masaud was taken to Atlanta USP for a period of time and then moved to Oklahoma which is a transfer point for prisoners en route to another permanent location. Eventually, the website revealed that he was in Terre Haute, Indiana which is a medium security FCI.

At this time, Masaud is in the CMU Unit (Communications Management), which does exactly that -- all communication (mail, phones, visits) are monitored closely. It is stated that this unit has been opened to curtail and monitor communication from those inmates who have violated the communication policy and caused detriment to security. At present, almost all of the inmates are Muslims, some U.S. citizens and some of Arab extraction – a few are non-Muslim.

The pre-arranged visit began at 8:00 am Monday morning at the main FCI building with the usual identification photos being taken and detection procedures. The staff were very friendly and relaxed, and the family were then escorted to the small, enclosed visitation room where Masaud was waiting on the other side of a glass window with telephone.

There was concern that Masaud's son might be upset that he could not have physical contact with his father, he accepted the situation and enjoyed his phone / visual conversation. In fact, he wanted to return the next day as he was accustomed to doing, and couldn't understand why the family were leaving for the airport.

Masaud looked well; however, he continues to be in pain from the knee injury he received so long ago, and expressed the wish to see a dentist as he has had a throbbing toothache for 3 weeks. He has asked for treatment or even some medication, but nothing has been done. At this point, it is most likely the offending tooth will be pulled and the infection traveling in his blood treated with antibiotics, inshallah. He said it appears to be a "big project" to just provide a dentist or they simply do not care about it.

The living conditions are cell-like structures; there is no fresh air or outdoor activity. He asked what the countryside looked like. The inmates are able to pray the five prayers and halal food is provided for them, in addition to the Commissary snack machines. He is able to receive mail and books, and his family continues to send him a monthly amount for his necessities.

Since the medium of instruction in education in South India is English, Muslim women can follow your messages in the NT, and they appreciate the bold stand taken by the NT in emancipating them. It is the NT that often raises voice against the injustice to the Muslim sisters.

Your arguing Woman's imamat was very refreshing. Poor weaker gender was pushed to the last row for centuries without looking into: "U'budullah" being a universal command. The only reason that could be given to support forbidding Imamat of women was "menses" (being "Azan") as its flow could not be controlled. As for Imamat of a woman for woman congregants, it is well-established by Syeda Aisha's conduct. Duaon me yaad kar liya karen.

LETTER: University Student Offended by NT report on Va-Tech

After receiving your newsletter about the VT killings, I am very offended from what you said. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about when addressing the Virginia Tech campus. I have been there many times, and I know many muslims who attend the school. There is a masjid less than 1/2 mile off of campus. The MSA there is also very strong. Believe it or not, every person who goes to VT is not an atheist or someone who has no faith whatsoever. You need to stop being so biased towards the entire American community and actually get your facts straight before classifying 30000 people into one ignorant group.

Wow, good point on the VA Tech killer. People rushed to mention which country he was originally from, it was pretty disgusting, and I felt like it was a silent racism in action, where they were trying to force a greater "immigrant problem". The guy was an american, give me a break!
