PALESTINE:

Occupied Jerusalem: Yasra al-Rajbi, a 60 year old Palestinian woman was killed by Israeli Jewish troops when she stepped forward to free a young man who had been arrested by the Israelis and they were beating him.
[Her murder was omitted by the entire U.S. media but was reported by Pakistani Urdu newspapers.] [Feb. 27]

Israeli armored columns entered Nablus and Jewish troops broke into Palestinian homes for three straight days on claims of looking for "suicide bombers." [Feb. 28-March 2]

"SAUDI" ARABIA: AP: 17 km north of Madina, gunmen opened fire on European tourists killing three French men. The deaths were confirmed by Major General Manam al-Turki, Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman. [Feb. 27.]

PAKISTAN:

MUSHARRAF to Fight Taliban: The U.S. has given EIGHT Cobra AH1-F helicopters, worth $50 million, to the Pakistan army to fight the Taliban. [Fox TV News, Feb. 2, 2007] The U.S. announced that its troops and artillery attack inside Pakistan in pursuit of Taliban whenever necessary. Pakistan is denying it. [Feb. 28] MUSHARRAF opened a money based "re-Elect Musharraf" campaign starting from Faisalabad, under strict security and released huge amounts of money to mollify the people. On March 4, he continued his campaign in the town of Attock where he ordered the release of Rs. 50,000,000 to local supporters. [$1 is about 60 Rs.] Here he gave a FATWA that "suicide bombing is forbidden in Islam" and that he will take action against medressas which harbor would-be-martyrs. He ordered "foreigners" [Muslims from other countries] to leave or be persecuted. [Large scale arrests of Afghan refugees are underway.]

Musharraf's anti-terrorist Judge attacked: March 2: Multan city: Bashir Ahmed Bhatti, a judge who tries "terrorists" was seriously wounded along with 7 members of his elite security unit when a remote controlled explosion hit him. One member of his elite force and two other police were killed in the blast.

Quetta: March 4: Pakistani police arrested three Afghans for money laundering and fake passports. U.S. media were told by the Pakistanis that one of those arrested was Ubaidullah Akhund, number three in the Taliban hierarchy after Mullah Umar. Reports say that that he was taken by helicopter to Islamabad and is being interrogated by the FBI. However, the police who arrested the three say that the report is not correct and those arrested were not Taliban. A Taliban spokesman too has denied the report of his capture.

TUNK town: Gunmen opened fire on an armored personnel carrier of the Pakistani army wounding several crew.

Miranshah, North Waziristan: Baloch Khan Mehsood who was known locally as a U.S. agent was reportedly abducted, taken to Afghanistan and executed in the province of Khost.

AFGHANISTAN:

Baghram Air Base, February 27: In a spectacular martyrdom operation, an Afghan struck the main U.S. army base when U.S. Vice President Cheney was inside. A U.S. trooper, a U.S. contractor, a Korean soldier and 20 Afghan mercenary troops were killed and 23 wounded. The attack sent shock waves through the U.S. and AFFECTED THE STOCK MARKET [according to Hillary Clinton]. The V.P was terrified and made the 18 mile trip from the base to Kabul by PLANE.

HELMAND PROVINCE:

March 4. As New Trend goes to the press, heavy fighting is going on in the three districts captured by the Taliban. The latest fighting began when the Taliban blew up a British tank. The British attacked to break out of Taliban encirclement and were counterattacked by the Taliban.

FARAH Province:

In a totally new development, Taliban captured the district of Buckwa. The Karzai troops in the area fled. The Kabul government arrested two officers for cooperating with the Taliban.

Jalalabad, NANGARHAR Province: A martyrdom operator in a car hit a column of NATO troops. NATO losses have not been disclosed. In a state of shock, NATO troops opened fire in all directions, hitting numerous homes and killing at least 8 civilians.

March 2, 2007: The military operations commander of the Taliban, Mullah DadAllah, whom many Muslims see as the Khalid ibn al-Waleed, r.a., of our times, gave an interview to the BBC which was only partly reported. It has now appeared in greater detail in al-Jazeerah and Pakistani Urdu papers. DadAllah said that Taliban can now make many of their own weapons. He said he is in CONSTANT CONTACT with Osama bin Laden, leader of the global Islamic resistance, though he has not met him. DadAllah said that more young people are signing up for martyrdom operations against NATO than the Taliban can handle. Already 600 would-be-martyrs are ready to go while another 6,000 want to sign up.

IRAN:

March 2: The U.S. and Britain will meet with Iranian and Syrian officials at the invitation of the Iraqi "Prime Minister" Nuri al-Maliki IN IRAQ.

March 4: Mowaffak al-Rubaie, top official of the U.S. installed "government" in Baghdad said that "Iran has stopped supplying militias" although President Bush had alleged otherwise.

March 1: Prof. Burnett Rubin of the New York University Center on International Cooperation told a Senate Armed Service Committee hearing that Iran wants to "SHARE INTELLIGENCE" with the U.S. because "Al-Qaeda is a major threat to Iran." He was given the info by Iranian officials: he speaks to U.S. officials but they are not paying full attention. Iran is also very worried about the Taliban resurgence, he said.

In the same hearing [broadcast on C-Span] Senator Jack Reed [D-Rhode Island] said that "INDIA is providing significant help to KARZAI through IRAN." Reed, who just returned from the region, said that Pakistan is hurt by this infusion of Indian influence in Kabul.

Important Workshops on Africa, Reparations and the Oppressive Situation in America

Imam Warith Deen Umar's Case Brought up: Why was Siraj Wahhaj Invited?

Readers might have read the main points of Minister Louis Farrakhan's historic February 25 speech which I published earlier in New Trend. I notice that most of them were missed by the corporate media in their reporting on Farrakhan's speech.

A day earlier, on February 24, important workshops were held. I was able to attend three of them, the ones with the biggest attendance, in the morning, afternoon and at night. In addition I attended a large gathering in which the Nation of Islam and its supporters hailed the special guests [including yours truly] and repeatedly chanted Allahu Akbar led by Shaikh Tijani, Minister Farrakhan's ahl-al-Sunnah adviser from Ghana. The organizational skills of Minister Akbar Muhammad made all these activities possible and disciplined.

I made the following points about reparations: The Nation of Islam, N'Cobra and other groups are researching and taking on specific businesses which might have been connected in their early history to slavery. This process is good for research but ultimately the U.S. power structure and government, not individual companies, should pay reparations to people of African descent or their representatives. Reparations should be paid to the entire African Diaspora, including the Black population of Brazil and the people of the West Indies. The claim for reparations should rise from Africa itself otherwise U.S. law could circumvent attempts by Americans to sue the government for slavery.

I added: Notice what the Jews did to Germany. They suffered only from 1941 to 1945. The new generation of Germans had nothing to do with the suffering of Jews during the war, yet Germany paid billions to Israel and International Jewry and is continuing to do so. The entire post- 1945 German nation was deemed guilty of what allegedly happened during the war.

In addition, during the last years of the war and immediately after, the allies of the Jews killed more German civilians than the numbers of Jews claimed to have been killed. German women were raped en masse.

By sharp contrast, Black people did not kill their oppressors after slavery ended, nor did they rape their women. Hence the Black claim for reparations is far more justified.

During the session on the political situation in America, 7-10 PM, which had a large audience, I brought up the case of Imam Warith Deen Umar. Incredibly, they had never heard of the case in which the power of U.S. government and Zionist media was brought to bear on this outstanding and distinguished Imam and as a result his livelihood was destroyed, his home was raided and he was subjected to bogus criminal investigation.

The response to my question about Imam Umar was very positive both from the Nation of Islam officials and the leadership of the New Black Panther Party. Hopefully we will get support on this case. They are also very supportive of Imam Jamil al-Amin. Earlier in the day I met and supported Br. Khalid Samad, from Cleveland, who was actively canvassing for Imam Jamil's case.

This situation [about lack of info on Imam Umar] also helped me to understand why the NOI invited Siraj Wahhaj to give the Juma' khutba on February 23. Looks like the NOI has been so involved in solving serious issues facing the Black community that it has not kept up with developments in the larger Islamic community. They don't realize that Siraj Wahhaj has been part of the Central Committee of ISNA [the so-called Islamic Society of North America] strongly linked to the FBI and other governmental organizations which have been oppressing the Muslims of America after 9.11. The NOI also does not seem to know that Siraj Wahhaj helped a Zionist judge to put the great scholar of Islam Dr. Omar 'Abdel Rahman [the blind Shaikh] in prison for life. Afterwards Siraj in a friendly interview with the Zionist flagship publication, the Wall Street Journal, boasted and joked about how he had defamed the Shaikh. [All this is available in print.]

It should be noticed that other than Jamaat al-Muslimeen, Minister Farrakhan was the only one who had the courage in all of America to speak against the mistreatment of Shaikh Omar by the government.

Perhaps the NOI wanted to show, by inviting Siraj Wahhaj, that it is building bridges with those who opposed it. However, Siraj did not reciprocate this goodwill. After giving his khutba, he disappeared. He could have stayed for the workshops on Feb. 24, mixed and mingled with the distinguished guests and shown that he really cares for the Muslims who invited him. His arrogance showed through.

He was not there even for Minister Farrakhan's powerful speech of Feb. 25. This is typical ISNA-Siraj-Wahhaj arrogance. It's possible that he came up with some plausible excuse [I don't know] but he could have sent someone to represent him. Good manners are part of Islam.

News of Siraj Wahhaj's khutba was publicized by ISNA's offshoot CAIR which is working VERY CLOSELY with the FBI. CAIR which has not bothered about the NOI or Farrakhan for years seems to have tried to give the impression that Siraj was doing a favor to the NOI. Siraj's own publicity tried to give the same impression but when the arrogant one gave the khutba, he gave the impression that he is a great friend of Farrakhan!

One of the best sessions in the conference was the one about Africa presided over by Minister Akbar Muhammad. Kwame Ture's son Bokar Ture was introduced to the audience.. One of the famous people of the African struggle, Dudley Thompson, now 90, who defended the leader of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta against the British was a delight to hear. I cannot resist mentioning these. There was a host of other remarkable people but I don't want to preempt the NOI's own paper The Final Call in their coverage of this amazing conference.

In conclusion, one must note the marvelous use of technology by the NOI. The President of Sudan was televised to the conference and answered questions from the audience. During Minister Farrakhan's speech, the statistics he provided, the comparisons he made, the quotations he used, the books he recommended were televised on huge screens for the stadium full of people. The speaker himself was visible on a large TV screen to the whole crowd with the camera moving to various segments of the crowd and sometimes to the special guests on the dais.

In Farrakhan, Black America in general and the people of faith, both Christians and Muslims, have found a truly great leader. Most amazingly, in spite of the power of his words, he remains humble, loving and compassionate to his people. During the speech, and later at a reception for the VIP guests, he expressed his thanks innumerable times to the people who prayed for his recovery. May Allah give him many more years.

salaam alaikum, thank you so very much for the fascinating summary of the lecture on the presence of black Africans in all continents and cultures. It would make a wonderful book with pictures. I read the two books I could find on Muslims in pre-Columbian America and the Muslim slaves. perhaps you can help me find another source for info a Muslim sister gave me that when William Penn came to Pennsylvania he found people with muslim dress and Muslim names who signed the treaty with those names. I have not been able to find this in print. Can you help?

Second update on efforts to stop the Summary execution of three Iraqi women

Twenty-four hours ago we issued an urgent alert, stating that the defense of human rights in Iraq, as a result of US occupation and its sectarian puppet forces, is practically impossible. But the awareness by thousands of this fact explains the overwhelming mobilization we are witnessing in defence of three Iraqi women facing the gallows.

Individuals, intellectuals, women's organizations, lawyers' associations, human rights groups, trade unions and political movements effectively networked and took initiative worldwide. The popular pressure that has been built from everywhere, via numerous routes, impelled, among others: Today we received information via the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention that the three Iraqi women will not be executed until an appeals court has ruled on their cases. This assurance came from Iraqi authorities. It is not enough. We demand to know the charges on which these three Iraqi women stand convicted. We demand to know the date of their appeal hearings. We demand that a public statement is made. We demand that they be afforded all due protections under international human rights and humanitarian law. If charged with resisting foreign occupation and aggression, we declare this charge illegal.

While Wassan, Zainab and Liqa are no longer anonymous, 20 million other Iraqis face imminent threats in towns and cities where occupation-sponsored death squads continue to operate with impunity and where rape and torture by US and Iraqi puppet forces is endemic. Over one million have been arbitrarily deprived of the right to life and tens of thousands more arbitrarily detained. Backward and sectarian forces have been installed in power and the achievements of the Iraqi people over the past 100 years have been reduced to ashes.

The end of oppression, of summary executions and assassinations, of arbitrary detentions, rape and torture, of mass murder, civil strife and genocide, and the destruction of civilization, culture and history, comes with the end of the occupation.

The occupation of Iraq is no less than the concrete implementation of the ideology driving the so-called war on terror; permanent war, the denial of civil liberties and the exclusion of international law from international relations that prevents the peaceful coexistence and reciprocal advancement of peoples and cultures. The depth of solidarity and defense of human dignity, justice and most basic human rights expressed in the case of these three Iraqi women is proof that humanity refuses this regression.

From Berlin to Baghdad, we salute all those that through public demonstrations, personal moral conviction, or resistance in their given situation, have linked the lives of three Iraqi women indeed, all Iraqi women, to the dignity and resilience of the nation of Iraq under the hammer of a defeated occupation.

As 20 March 2007 the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq approaches, we hope all stay mobilized to secure the wellbeing of Wassan, Zeinab and Liqa. We demand the liberation of all political prisoners in Iraq.

We also call for worldwide, intensifying mobilization to stop this illegal blood-soaked occupation, struggle to uphold international law by retrieving recognition from the criminal sectarian puppet Iraqi government, recognizing the Iraqi Resistance as the sole representative of the will of the Iraqi people, and demanding the unconditional and immediate withdrawal of all occupation forces.

The only solution in Iraq is the sovereignty of the Iraqi people.

We stand with millions in defense of justice. We stand with millions in defense of Iraq. Our hearts are Iraqi.

ISLAM in America: What are our Tasks and duties?

In the context of modern world and considering the various crises which Muslim world is encountered with due to highly publicized ""Crusade"" of President Bush against Islam in the name of ""War against Terrorism"", it appears that America is the most suitable place where Islam can shower its infinite blessings on its people in due course; where American leadership is very much scared of Islam''s inherent magnetic power that is attracting people who are in search of "Truth" and a system of life that can resolve the problems of both the worlds. The causes of this "hopeful" situation, the reasons for this upbeat approach and the possibilities of its occurrence are various and very convincing. I will discuss each in brief to remove the clouds of despondency that are hovering over the minds of American Muslims, especially after the tragic event of September 11, 2001. It is in the nature of Islam that the more attempts are made to "crush" it through opposition, suppression and oppression, the more it rebounds and resurrects with great thud. The history of revival of Islam in modern Russia after the collapse of communism and that of recent Turkey are the glaring examples of this reality. Thus, America due to its predominant anti-Islam policies both at home and abroad has become the most natural place for its revival as a geopolitical entity.

1. The Planning of Allah: In fact, Allah (SWT) has perhaps "selected" this land out of His infinite mercy to be the future "home" of Islam. It may look strange to many but the emergence of Islam from Arabian Peninsula in seventh century AC in the most primitive human society whose people were brave, dauntless, honest, trustworthy and full of valor far excellence of that age was the miracle of the time. Islam polished their character and transformed them to be the hope of the oppressed mankind. Muslims dominated the world scenarios for about a thousand years but they lost its leadership when they deserted Islam as a "System of life" for the worldly gains and now holding it only as a "religion."

In today's world, Americans excel in the art of science and technology, Research and development, in undertaking strenuous jobs of exploration on land, under the sea and above the sky in the space and striving hard to be the leaders of mankind. The only thing that they lack is the ideology that could attract the imagination of the world in this materialistic age and that could transform them to be the honest and the trustworthy torch bearers only of truth, care and service to the suffering humanity. The oppressive ideology of capitalism in the "garb" of democracy has failed to attract the poor people of Asia, Africa and Latin America. Islam provides that unique opportunity to American people who are "destined" to rush for it and grab it as their future ideology. Only then mankind may trust their actions, deeds and "promises," otherwise not. Islam is now their future need. It appears that in the fitness of the situation, Allah (SWT) has perhaps "selected" the people of the USA as the future leaders of mankind as He selected Arabs 1400 years ago. It is the honesty in character that matters to the suffering and oppressed humanity not wealth, technical know-how or military might howsoever great it might be. Allah is preparing the ground for the emergence of this "miracle" in the current millennium.

Keeping the aforesaid "Divine Strategy" in mind, it appears as the planning of Allah that the most developed and the most scientifically advanced country of the USA gives a free and fair trial to Islamic system of life as its future ideology in order to stop its ever-growing moral decadence; provides ideological moral foundation to its domestic and foreign policies to stabilize its dwindling foreign influence in the community of nations in the wake of its decade old hegemonies for the New World Order; eradicates the prevailing corruption from its corporate economic system; remodels its social and cultural system of life by removing various imbalances at personal, family and national levels; gives redress to its unbalanced growth and uneven concentration of wealth in the hands of a few while depriving teaming millions form the fruits of its free economy at equal footings by introducing the self-sustained welfare system of Islam for its poor, the needy, the deprived and the incapacitated people at ease with willing and active support of the affluent with no burden on the treasury or public exchequer at all. Without these corrective measures, Americans should not even dream to be accepted as the leaders of mankind. Only Islam and its concept of life –– obedience to Allah, the Creator and the Sustainer and feeling always accountable to Him for every action and deed on earth, can come to their rescue.

2. Influx of Muslim Immigrants: As no Prophet was to come to fulfill this paramount need of America towards reforming its affairs in depth, Allah (SWT) in His infinite mercy and through His Divine planning, arranged to send millions of highly educated "messengers" of His last Messenger (S), in different fields from different parts of the Muslim world through the process of immigration to meet the growing needs of skilled labor of this country. It must be clear in our heads that none of us has come over here on his/her own accord but as per His aforesaid grand planning. He paved our way to migrate to this country and live here as its most productive citizens and the recognized ambassadors of Islam. That process is still on in spite of some set backs that it had sustained in the post-9/11 era.

In fact, right from the very outset, the immigrant Muslims in close cooperation with our indigenous brothers/sisters should have been conscious of their position on earth as the savior of mankind and demonstrated their characters as a boon and benediction for the people of this land and the society at large. Unfortunately, Muslims as a community lost that opportunity, forgot the mission of their life, involved themselves enjoying the free-for-all "bounties" of this prosperous land, are gradually increasing their strength numerically but not qualitatively as Da'ee Ilallah, the only special title that Allah preferred and conferred on them when they are actively involved in calling the people to the fold of their Creator and Sustainer. [Ref: Verse 33 of Surah 41 of the Qur''an]. However, this chapter is still wide open and Muslims can rush through that process any time and get themselves re-established on correct footings in this country.

3. What the USA Constitutes: The USA is a vast country of 350 millions with enormous material and highly technical resources of its own, holding a strategic position of utmost importance in between two Oceans –– the Pacific and the Atlantic, with vast hinterland both in the North and in the South up to the Coast of Chile. Its population is heterogeneous, representing different faiths, languages and ethnicities all living together in the melting pot of America. Most of the human and family values that they believe, protect and promote in their socio-economic-political life are the remnants of Abrahamic faith, irrespective of the fact whether he/she is a Jew, a Christians or a Muslim, the predominant population of this land. Believers in paganism are quite limited in number and so is the case of atheism. They are in microscopic minority. These fundamental values are the resonant of "Islam" as a way of life and the legacies of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

4. The Inevitable Role of Muslims: Thus, howsoever distorted it may look, the paramount "religion" of this country is monotheism [Trust in God] and believing in the accountability on the last Day of Judgment. Here the followers of Islam stand at par with their Christian and Jews brothers, agreeing basically on concepts but variably different in practice and approach towards life. Here now the role of the immigrant Muslims comes in its true picture. They are to live, act and behave as the motivating force in presenting the concept of Monotheism in its most puritan form and the accountability in Akhirah as the guiding force of their life in their day to day activities, serving as model to the people of the land. They are to walk on the streets of the USA as living models of the Qur'an and what it envisages. It was their well articulated assignment from their Lord and they should have carried it out form the day they landed on this land. If they don't do it now, their stay in the USA, enjoying its bounties but rendering no service to its people as ordained by Allah will become extremely troublesome for them on the Day of Judgment.

This is the flash point of Muslim''s character and that is the objective for which Allah (SWT) has arranged their way to this land of opportunities, not for dollars, comfort and easy going life. That is the secondary object as it would come automatically to them. When they are living in this country, Allah will shower upon them "bread and butter" in abundance as He is the best Provider. [Ref: Verse 58 of Surah 51] Allah never neglects His "slaves" that fall in the category of "Muhseneen." His appointed angels accompany them when they are in the field of Dawah Ilallah. [Ref: Verse 31 of Surah 41]. Can any assignment be more dignified than calling the people to the fold of Allah?

5. Now What to Do?

* Let us see first where we stand: Currently, about eight millions Muslims are living in America and Canada, mostly on permanent basis. Most of them, Alhamdulillah, are well placed in life, technically advanced and leading a well established professional life in different sectors of the society. Most of them have made or in the process of making their "Dunya" [worldly life] fine and their children are getting education for most lucrative jobs in the best campuses. But for the life of "Akhirah," unfortunately, they take it as sufficient if they perform five times prayers a day at some Muslim center or mosque or at home, are able to fast during the month of Ramadan, attend some lectures here and there and participate in Annual Conventions of ISNA, ICNA and some Afro-American Muslim's caucuses at national and regional levels with great fanfare, thinking that their obligation to their "religion" Islam is fulfilled. Our Imams and the Muslim leadership also feel contented, if the community is doing so much and contributes "generously" for the Masajid. It must be noted at this juncture that hardly 15 % Muslims are practicing this so much of Islam or attached to mosques. The rest are lost in the melting pot of the American way of life that is free for all. This is our account at individual level.

*To abridge the vast gap of basic Dawah needs, it demands a lot of funds, many prolific writers in English and Spanish, a well organized system of distribution through enormous Dawah activities and a dynamic effective force of hundreds and thousands of Da'ee Ilallah. Muslim national organizations will have to make a joint and concerted effort to abridge this gap and the Muslim community must come forward with abundance of funds that, Alhamdulillah, they do have, to meet these needs and earn the magnificent harvest of AJR for Akhirah with no delay at all. Time left for us is very small and very tight.

Our sisters and our youth must be eager to play a dominant role in the field of Dawah Ilallah as they are equally responsible as men are. Rather, they will be more effective in communicating with the masses of the land both at individual and group levels. Muslim Sisters must come forward and reorganize to penetrate deep into this society, meet the American sisters and acquaint them with the blessings of Islam that they are enjoying immensely in their hearths and homes like the proverbial queens of time.

* The Culminating Point: The planning of Allah is absolutely clear as envisioned above. The disorganized condition of Muslim Ummah in America is extremely deplorable as we see around us. The state of our Dawah activities in this country, how meager and insufficient it is, is no longer a secret. The attitude of individual Muslims and that of Imams, organizations and national institutions towards Dawah Ilallah is that of neglect. However, the total prevailing condition is not of hopelessness but of hope. Allamah Iqbal rightly said: "Zarah num hu tu yeh mitti bahut zarkhez hai saqi" [Translation: The ground of this Ummah is very fertile even when it is wet a little]. The Muslim leadership, our respected Imams, our Masajid, Muslim communities, and our National Organizations all together have to resolve to undertake Dawah Ilallah as the basic need of this country on emergent footings, muster and mobilize the available resources of the community in men and material and build the requisite team of Da'ees in American perspective.

The day the Muslim community of America resolves to undertake this onerous task to fulfill as the only objective of its existence in America, Allah''s help and Nusrah will grace its efforts with success in due course of time as He ordains in the Qur''an in Verse # 69 of Surah # 29, Al-Ankabut:

"As for those who strive in Us [in His way], We surely guide them to our paths, and Lo! Allah is with the good [Muhseneen]"

May Allah bless the Muslim community of the USA with Tawfeeq and Azimah to rise to the occasion and fill the vacuum of Dawah Ilallah with an effective team of Da''ees in American perspective! Amen!
